Learn, Love, Create!
A Note from the Department Head
Jay Muldoon
We love telling stories and teaching the art and craft of theater. Come join our family.
“My Sister Chelsey is my hero. If it were not for her, I would not have gotten involved in this amazing program. I failed to get Massie a quote, so he is literally putting words in my mouth.”
“A lot of people leave high school loving their sport, club, or activity. As for myself, the Fairfield theater department completely shaped my life. My directors went from being teachers and mentors of theater to teachers and mentors for life. Theater developed into a passion that I wanted to teach. It is a process, where the performance simply celebrates the hard work. It is an art form that relies on people working together in full trust. When you join this program, you join more than a troupe; you join a family.”
“Act well your part”, this is just one part of the thespian motto that pertains to more than just on stage. Theater gives you the necessary skills and lessons to act well your part in every role you may take on in life. Whether that be a sibling, student, employee, friend, or team member; “there all the honor lies.”
Hair & Makeup For The Stage
Stage makeup (like a good costume) is not about making the actor “look good.” It is about making the character “look good.” The Wicked Witch must be green, regardless of whether that color “looks good on me.” Figure out what the character looks like and gear your makeup towards that image and it will always look good, even when it looks oh so bad.
- Remember highlights and low lights when shading.
- Where should the face be darker or lighter than normal?
- The lights will always wash you out, therefore some color is needed.
- Everyone is different, so have fun experimenting.
- Powder. Powder. Powder.
- Audience distance matters.
- The farther the audience, often the more extreme the makeup.
- Makeup can help you determine a characters actions earlier in the process
