Fairfield Drama

More than fifty years of tradition and still growing.

About Us

OUR FAIRFIELD HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA DEPARTMENT HAS A RICH LEGACY OF HELPING KIDS CREATE AND TELL STORIES THROUGH THE ART OF THEATER FOR OVER FIFTY YEARS.  ORIGINALLY UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF PAT AND JIM DAVIS, WITH MUSICAL ASSISTANCE FROM PAUL THOMS AND DAN PRIOR, THE PROGRAM HAS PROGRESSED AND NEVER FALTERED IN OUR LOVE OF KIDS AND OUR DESIRE TO GIVE THEM A VOICE. A SPECIAL THANKS TO DIANNE ROBINSON AND KATHLEEN SULLIVAN, WHO ALSO WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN OUR PROGRAM THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.

JAY MULDOON, MINDY REED, TRISH LUTTERBIE, LORI VAIL, AND MICHAEL MASSIE LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING THE TRADITION OF THEATRICAL EXCELLENCE FOR YEARS TO COME.  WE HOPE YOUR KIDS WILL COME AND JOIN IN THE “PLAY.”

FHS Staff | Kids Learn Theater

Jay Muldoon

Jay has taught high school theater for the past 20 plus years, and has directed high school, middle school and elementary aged productions for the past 25 years.  Jay is a director and teacher of theater at Fairfield High School, where he works with a fantastic artistic team of directors/designers. A graduate in theater from Bridgewater State College University, Jay has played many roles throughout his theater career, including: director, actor, producer, sound and light technician, technical director, and set designer; but above all he is a theater teacher.  Jay and his wife Loraine are blessed with six boys.

Mindy Reed

Mindy Reed has been a French teacher and Assistant Drama Director at FHS for 20 years. She has directed high school, middle school and elementary age students. Mindy gets to share her passion for theater with students of all ages, working together to learn how to tell a story. A graduate of Wake Forest University, as a Presidential Scholar in Theater, Mindy was able to work in the various aspects of theater, including acting, directing, producing, setting lights, and creating and coordinating props and costumes. Mindy is blessed and humbled by the love and support of her family – her husband Craig and four amazing children: Max, Anna, Will and Julia.

Trish Lutterbie

Trish Lutterbie has been teaching math for more than twenty years.  She is an alum of Eastern Kentucky University.  Trish wears many hats for the theater department including the hats of director, the light and sound technical director, and the Performing Arts Center manager.  Her love for theater in its many varied forms is only surpassed by her love of her furry “children” throughout their many iterations.

Michael Massie

Michael Massie has been an English teacher in the Fairfield City School district for close to twenty years.  He holds a degree from Miami University and a Masters from Anderson School of Theology.  He has enjoyed directing, teaching, writing and performing for over thirty-five years.  His wife Kelly is a music teacher at Fairfield. His son, Tim, and daughter, Amy, have both been a part of this program that helped fashion him years ago.  Theater truly is a shared experience where audience and actor alike get to invent and interpret stories that have impact, and hopefully when you leave, all involved have been impacted in a positive manner.

Lori Vail

Lori is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, and she has been with Fairfield since 2010, where she student taught and was later hired as an English teacher. She has enjoyed that role ever since. In her free time, she enjoys home life with her husband, Matthew and their two Australian cattle dogs, Kiche and Kawliga. She manages the box office for our drama program.

Chelsey Cavender

Chelsey has been a teacher in the Fairfield City School District for close to a decade. She is excited to share her love of story telling with the many talented students in Fairfield.  She holds a fine arts degree from Wright State University and a Masters in Teaching from Mount St. Joseph University.  Prior to teaching she toured regionally with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati and Free Shakespeare Company.  She also worked at the Educational Theatre Association–home of the International Thespian Society.  She currently resides in Hamilton with her black lab Harley.
